Should we not want another “Ghostbusters” film? I’m conflicted, are you? Well, how you and I feel is becoming an increasingly moot question because the development of the sequel has certainly gathered steam in the last few months. First it was announced that a pair of “Office” writers were scripting the third adventure. Then Bill Murray spoke with us and others about how intrigued he was about coming back to the franchise at long last. Hell, Murray even had an idea–adding a female Ghostbuster to the fray.
This afternoon I got opportunity to chat with Dana Barrett herself and yes, Ms. Sigourney Weaver is well aware of the chatter. “I’ve heard about it,” she stated, adding “I’m supposed to get in touch with Bill [Murray] next week.”
Weaver called Murray’s potential involvement “great” and said she’s wondering if he thinks Dana ended up with Venkman. “Does he think we got married or something?” she laughed. Weaver wasn’t sure if there was a place for her in the story but she did think someone deserves a spot. “I would hope that my tiny Oscar would be one of the Ghostbusters even if I’m not in it!”
The son of Peter and Dana a Ghostbuster?!? What do you think? Should Dana return along with the original team in the third “Ghostbusters”?

It’s the project every Tim Burton and Johnny Depp fan keeps dreaming of — the duo’s remake of “Dark Shadows.” Depp has reportedly dreamed of playing vampire Barnabas Collins since childhood, and in 2007, purchased the rights to the 60s TV show through his shingle, Infinitum Nihil. He’s been developing a remake with Warner Bros., and Burton became unofficially attached this year — probably to the surprise of no one, given his taste towards the Gothic.
However, Depp has become attached to a number of big projects this year, not the least of which is “The Lone Ranger” and a fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” installment. For a while, it seemed as though he might be putting his vampire fantasies on hold. But according to producer Richard D. Zanuck talking to Collider, “Dark Shadows” is going to be Depp and Burton’s next project, and they plan to begin shooting in London next summer.
Keep in mind that this is unofficial, and that schedules can change pretty rapidly in Hollywood, particularly when your as in demand as Depp is. On the other hand, vampires are the hottest creatures going right now, and audiences are probably in the mood for a “Dark Shadows” remake like never before.
With that thought, MTV readers, who do you prefer in fangs — Johnny Depp or Robert Pattinson?

FROM SPLASH PAGE: On top of being a certified rock star, My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way is also living the life that most of us geeks can only dream of. In addition to his hit comic book series, Dark Horse Comics’ “The Umbrella Academy” (the new “season” of which — “Umbrella Academy: Dallas” — we previewed here on Splash Page a few weeks back), Way and the boys of MCR are also contributing a song for the upcoming, ridiculously-anticipated comic flick, “Watchmen.” For Way — a hardcore fan of the original groundbreaking comic series — it couldn’t get any superior…or could it?
“I don’t want to state too much but as far as the placement right now, it’s integral to the ending of the film,” stated Way, revealing that things have changed since our earlier report that MCR’s cover of “Desolation Row” would be confined to playing over the end credits. “And that gave me goose bumps, and not because we did the song, but because it works that well I feel. I’ve seen the part that we’re integral to — we’re speaking about the very end.”
For more on My Chemical Romance’s Bob Dylan cover being integral to the ending of “Watchmen,” head over to SplashPage.MTV.com.

He’s fought Rocky, starred alongside Jean Claude Van Damme, and battled foes as the Master of the Universe. Now action icon Dolph Lundgren is about to go toe to toe with his greatest co-star ever: Britney Spears. Well, sort of.

It might surprise you to know that the man formerly known as Ivan Drago has moved from starring in movies, to writing and directing them as well. His third such romp as triple threat is called “Command Performance,” which centers on an ex-biker turned hard case tough guy drummer, who has to rescue the Russian President after terrorists take over an arena where he’s watching a concert. (I swear to God that’s the plot, by the way).
“The concert is going on and the rock music is kind of blasting and the audience isn’t really sure what’s going on and the bad guys walk up on stage and the dancers kind of keep moving and some people are still thinking it’s a concert and some are running. They take the president hostage, his family, his daughters and you know my character’s name is Joe and he’s kind of off having a joint in the restroom,” Lundgren stated of the inciting incident. “It’s a bit uncommon.”

Of course, the President isn’t there to see Lundgren’s drummer, but “an American pop princess named Venus,” Lundgren stated. Enter Britney Spears. Well, Melissa Smith - but you get the idea.
“I thought about Britney a tiny bit [writing the character] I mean she sings, she dances, she has like a stage show, she does that kind of hip hop moves. I’ve looked and I’ve seen her - I mean, everybody has!” Lundgren laughed. “But Venus is just a fictitious character that we created that I came up with.”
Lundgren calls the film “Die Hard’ at a rock concert,” but kicking butt and taking names isn’t actually why he wrote the role. It was so he could play drums. No, seriously.
“That’s why I wanted to do it because I used to drum, I played the drums when I was a kid and now I get to do it again on the big screen which is fun,” he told MTV News. And he’s apparently quite good. Lundgren promises that the film will have original music from Smith and the Bulgarian band D2.
What do you make of the film? Sound care about it’s getting your money, because, I’ll be honest, it’s definitely getting mine? Sound off on all your thoughts below.

If there’s one role Russell Brand can probably play in his sleep, it’s an irresponsible, boozy playboy — and he’s looking to play one of the most iconic rascals of all. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brand is in speaks to star in a remake of “Arthur” for Warner Bros. Brand is meeting with screenwriters to develop the project, undoubtedly with an eye to giving it a personal, manic twist.
The original “Arthur” centered around an unambitious and wealthy young man, who is happy doing nothing but drinking, sleeping around, and partying. But he’s told he can only inherit his vast fortune if he agrees to marry a woman named Susan, an heiress his family thinks will slap him into shape. He concurs, but winds up falling for a poor, working-class woman — and his family threatens to disinherit him when they find out.
“Arthur” was nominated for several Oscars, and the shot of Dudley Moore wearing a top hat in the bathtub has become iconic.
If Brand signs and makes it official, there is sure to be some backlash, as the original Moore film is considered a classic, and the British comedian is still a newcomer to American audiences. But considering Brand *is* Arthur in most ways, it seems to be a natural fit.
MTV readers, what do you think of Brand starring in “Arthur”? Is his remake perfect for him, or would you rather see him develop his own material?
