We have some troubling, disturbing and off-putting news for you today. It appears that Wesley Snipes has in fact been given the maximum sentence of 3 years in prison! We get wind of this bullshit from the news masters at CNN:
Actor Wesley Snipes was sentenced to three years in prison and fined up to $5 million Thursday for failing to file federal tax returns. Wesley Snipes, sentenced to three years in prison, starred in “Blade,” “Major League” and “Murder at 1600.” It was the maximim sentence possible under federal sentencing guidelines.
Prosecutors last week urged U.S. District Judge William Hodges in Ocala, Florida, to sentence Snipes to the maximum penalty to demonstrate to taxpayers that refusal to pay income taxes carries severe penalties. “The law is very clear: People must pay their taxes,” Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Douglas Shulman said. “There is no secret formula that eliminates a person’s tax obligations.” Snipes was convicted on three misdemeanor counts of failure to file federal income tax returns.
WHAT THE FUCK!!!!??!?!?!!
Three years in prison for failing to file?! This is outlandish, preposterous ridiculous and unnecessary. Just tell the man to pay you what he owes and leave him be. Why do you need to throw a man in the slammer for three fucking years because he was neglectful in filling out his paperwork? I am no lawyer, and have no love for most laws and/or the legal system so excuse my ignorance on the matter……but fuck this ruling.
On many occasions the prosecution actually said that they want to “make an example of Snipes” how fucking fair is that? Shouldn’t he be treated without prejudice? How is this possible if everyone in the prosecution wants to use Wesley’s fame as a means to warn tardy tax filers. I was going to write a story about this earlier in the day, but I figured he would be innocent after the ruling…nope!
It looks like we are sans Snipes for three years amigos.
