Grant Morrison’s ‘We3’ Movie Gets A ‘Big Hot Director,’ But Who Is It?

Posted on Aug 7, 2008 12:00:04 PM | Filed under: we3, grant morrison, News

'We3'FROM SPLASH PAGE: A dog, a cat, and a rabbit need a home — that’s not just a way-oversimplified description of the plot of “We3,” but also the status of the film version of Grant Morrison’s mini-series about animal soldiers.

Since “We3” was originally optioned to New Line — and since New Line has since imploded/been absorbed into Warner Bros. — Morrison said the producers behind the project got the option back and have made quick progress with it. While at New Line, “We3” was considered by over a dozen directors but no one signed on. Now, Morrison said, “we have a director attached,” and while he wouldn’t reveal who that was, he said it was a “big, hot director” as well as a “real cool guy.” Guess that narrows the field. Pineapple Express Sequel to be a Superbad Sequel too!

Posted on Aug 7, 2008 09:04:14 AM | Filed under: News Chat

Some of the best inventions happen by mistake. Potato Chips, Penicillin, Anal Sex. And now thanks to a smartass comment during an interview, the crazy idea of making one sequel to two unrelated movies might actually happen.

Seth Rogen’s Superbad was awesome, and the studios have been poking him hoping to get him to make a sequel. Instead he made Pineapple Express. Now he wants to make a Pineapple Express sequel, and Sony still wants Superbad 2. Off the cuff in an interview Seth said “combine the two titles, and make one super awesome movie”. Then at SDCC’08 Apatow hinted that they might actually be going in that direction!

MovieWeb says:

So, yes, it is very possible that, in the summer of 2010, we will see something called Superbad Express, or Bad Pineapple, or The Further Adventures of Seth, Evan, Saul, and Dale.In the interview, Franco stated, “Even before Superbad came out, I think the studio was trying to get [Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg] to write a sequel, but they really didn’t want to write a sequel. I guess the kids would go to college or something like that. An answer to that was to do a Superbad/Pineapple Express crossover, an unprecedented crossover movie

The interesting thing is that Seth plays a character in BOTH of those movies. So how will they handle Superbad’s Seth and Evan meeting up with Dale Denton and not recognize him as Officer Michaels?

However they do it, its likely to be funny as all hell. I haven’t seen Pineapple Express yet, but Seth is more behind that than Superbad and I loved Superbad.

Here’s hoping!

Lethal Weapon 5? Glover and Gibson are up for it.

Posted on Aug 7, 2008 08:47:44 AM | Filed under: News Chat

It is truly rare that you find a series that gets past 2 movies where you just love every chapter. For me, that is Lethal Weapon (and Star Wars - shaddap, I like them)

So now it seems that the original writer has propped himself under that moss covered rock and is trying to get the ball rolling again.

Hollywood tracking board TrackingB.com reports that Shane Black, who wrote the first Lethal Weapon movie, has written a spec script for Lethal Weapon 5 without telling anyone. The site adds that he contacted franchise producer Joel Silver and said that he wanted to continue the story.

This time, homicidal Riggs (Mel Gibson) is about to retire, but pulls Murtaugh (Danny Glover) out of retirement to solve one final case, before they both officially head off into the sunset.

It seems like a good premise. I think I would dig that.

They already got “too old for this shit” but Murtaugh retired, leaving many years of service still ahead for his partner Riggs. We could see Riggs with a new partner, now settled down with Renee Russo and a family and finally at the point of his own retirement.

Aging stars returning to their franchises is all the rage lately, so I would not be surprised if the studios attempted this. I would love to see another Lethal Weapon, but it has to be the same cast. Mind you, I could do without Chris Rock even though I loved him in LW4.

Glover and Gibson have been approached and are said to be up for it, but nothing is on paper yet.

Lethal Weapon 4 set a nice final chapter, so if this doesn’t happen it won’t take away a resolved ending. We got that already.

Let them have one more ride. I am all game on this if its done right.

Linda Hamilton in Terminator Salvation?

Posted on Aug 7, 2008 08:33:54 AM | Filed under: News Chat

Linda Hamilton was a wonderful transition character from the 80s pop club hopping girl to the hardcore badass freedom fighter we see from Terminator 2 and beyond. She defined that role and played the “crazy-not-crazy” woman so well.

She’s the mother of the savior of mankind! She’s the Virgin Mary with a semi-automatic weapon.

Sarah Connor was written out of Terminator3 having succumbed to leukemia. She did live long enough for the predicted Judgement Day to come and go without the fall of mankind and dies thinking its over. So the last thing we expected was Hamilton reprising her role. But rumour says she just might do that!

ComingSoon says:

Pause.com has posted an interesting rumor stating that Linda Hamilton will be reprising her role as Sarah Connor in flashbacks for Terminator Salvation. The site later spoke with a rep for the actress who said they hadn’t heard of it, but we think there might be some truth to it!

I think I would be up for seeing Linda back in flashbacks. I think it would be appropriate that if they do show scenes like these that they get her to play the part.

I didn’t care so much for Terminator3 and maybe a part of that was a lack of Linda Hamilton. Her role in shaping the mission of John connor was so important, and he just didn’t seem “ready” in T3 to me.

Also, it seems very likely just because if they used a different actress to play her, it could distract from the continuity. So why go out of the way to not use her?
