This week’s business was a tad more robust than expected, with the critically reviled presidential assassination thriller “Vantage Point” exceeding expectations an estimated $24 million, Exhibitor Relations reports. “Jumper” slid 54 percent to an estimated $12.65 million, put it in a virtual tie with another holdover, “The Spiderwick Chronicles,” which dropped only 34 percent to $12.6 million. Among openers, the strongest was “Be Kind Rewind,” which took in an estimated $4.1 million on just 808 screens to take the No. 7 spot. Two other debuts were dead on arrival and opened out of the top 10: “Witless Protection,” $2.1 million at 1,333 and the long-delayed “Charlie Bartlett,” which could only manage $1.8 million despite some enthusiastic reviews. Among the Oscar contenders, “Juno” hung on in the No. 8 spot for a whopping $130.7 to date, while “There Will Be Blood” came in at No. 10 with a $34.9 million. The probable winner, “No Country for Old Men” was at No. 12 with $64.1 million so far.
