First ‘Iron Man’ Reviews

Paramount annoyingly won’t screen “Iron Man” for New York critics until Monday night, though there are already rave reviews up from Variety (”expansively entertaining”) and The Hollywood Reporter (”Marvel-ous”) and a slightly less adoring one (three stars out of five) from The Evening Standard (”we’re looking forward to the bound-to-be-better sequel”) in London, where the flick premiered the other evening, as well as a pan from Time Out London (”little more than an elongated, episodic and sporadically charming introduction to the life of this mechanised millionaire superhero, light on both CGI and moral quandaries, and possessing neither the zip and sparkle of a ‘Spider-Man’ nor the brooding existential subtexts of ‘Batman Begins.’ ”)
