Magnolia is also distributing another 2929 dud, “What Just Happened,” which failed to generate excitement at either Sundance or Cannes despite a cast headed by Robert DeNiro, Sean Penn and Bruce Willis. “Two Lovers,” a mopey romantic drama set in Brooklyn with Joaquin Phoenix and Gwyneth Paltrow, achieved a degree of notoriety when EW’s Lisa Schwartzbaum declared before its mobbed Cannes press screening that “I’m not going to wait an hour for a f–ing James Gray movie.”
